The period from 1385-1431 is often considered a transitional period from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance in English music. A small school of English composers are known primarily from The Old Hall Manuscript (c.1418?-c.1422?). The manuscript lists some twenty-four composers spanning the period from the late 14th century to the early 15th century. There was a new growth of nationalism and English at Court. The growth of orthodoxy in the Church especially in music. The Chapel Royal and the new monastic Lady Chapels are the primary leaders.

ALANUS (ALEYN, ALLEN), J[?] [ Jacobus, Johannes] (fl. late 14th century). [Identity uncertain.]
