The 'measurements'
of any given window are the horizontal and vertical dimensions of
each glass face (not including the frame). To obtain the square
feet of a window, you simple multiply the length (inches) times
the width (inches) and divide by 144 (square inches in a square
foot). We calculate using inches because windows are usually odd
sizes.
|
(L x W)/144 =
square feet
|
The film must be
cut out larger than the window to allow you to trim it to fit.
Therefore, we suggest a minimum of one (1) to two (2) inches over the
actual dimensions for cost calculations to allow room for error
and re-trimming if necessary.
|
Example:
A window that is 27" x 33" would be calculated this way when
adding 2" to the length and width for trimming:
((27 + 2) x (33 + 2)) / 144 = (29 x 35) / 144 = 1,015 /
144 = 7.05 square feet
If you have 4 windows that size: 4 x 7.05 = 28.20 sq ft
Perform this calculation for each window, add them all up,
and round down to get the total square feet.
i.e. 28.20 + 14.61 + 7.74 = 50.55 = 50 sq ft
Only round off after
all windows are added up
We have a minimum
charge of one (1) square foot per window. This means that if you
have individual French or Colonial style windows that are less
than one sq ft, you will need to add them up as 1 square foot.
We also do not cut film to an exact measurement. We would
suggest at least 1/2 inch overlap on this type of window.

Write down the measurements of the windows (including the
two inch overlap), add up the total square feet, pick out the film that
you want, and go to the store.
