A Special Public Awareness Announcement...
SHABU: |
DANGER!!! DANGER!!! DANGER!!! |
Shabu has consistently ranked
first among the most abused drugs in the Philippines since it gained
popularity in 1994.
According to the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB), 94 percent of drug abusers use shabu. The second most commonly abused narcotic, marijuana is only used by 37 percent even though the Philippines is a marijuana cultivating country.

Shabu addiction
is very difficult to treat. Users are often too excitable and resistant
to any form of intervention. Willpower alone cannot cure shabu addicts
because prolonged use of the drug causes changes in the brain.
And there is a high possibility of relapse among former users because there are psychiatric, social and biological components to shabu dependence. |
A tribute to those who have fallen victim and to those who cannot get out. |
There are some telltale signs
that one can watch out for to detect if someone is using shabu:
Users exhibit anxiousness, nervousness, incessant talking, extreme moodiness and irritability. Some show repetitious behavior such as picking at skin or pulling out the hair. They could also suffer from sleep disturbances, have a false sense of confidence and power, exhibit aggressive or violent behavior, show disinterest in previously enjoyed activities and manifest severe depression. |
